From Code Club:

We had a great session last weekend, with Python, Scratch and Excel classes running on Saturday and Robotics with Lego Mindstorms on Sunday. In fact there was such demand for the Robotics class that we already have the next classful of students on a waiting list ready for the next time we run it! It’s great seeing so much energy in one place; in fact our MakerRoom was buzzing with robots, electronics and even a Virtual Reality experience where Gary constructed a virtual version of Code Club for people to navigate around and explore!

If you’re after a copy of the handouts we used last week end here you go: Beginner Scratch Session 4 Handout, Advanced Python Handout.

We have more of the same this weekend, with classes progressing according to plan: Lesson 5 of Advanced Python (penultimate one), Lesson 5 of Beginner Scratch, Session 2 of Beginner Excel and Session 2 of Robotics, together with all sorts of geekery, Minecraft, 3D design and tech exploration happening around the rest of Code Club. Feel free to come and explore with us, especially if you have things you would like to share!

Next week we have some visitors to the Island who are coming to show us a project they have been working on called Pi-Top. It’s a Raspberry Pi powered laptop that you can build yourself and the team responsible for it are coming to demonstrate what they have created and tell us the story behind it. MICTA are organising a session with them on Monday evening ( https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-slice-of-hot-pi-tickets-15489290886?ref=ebapi ). We are also giving Code Club the opportunity to come, speak to the founders and see their kit in an open session on Tuesday 10th February at The Forum any time between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Feel free to drop in anytime and see what they have created!

In the meantime, I’ll see you on Saturday!
